RC Raven Maxx Springs

Introduction

Swapping the stock Maxx springs out for some that are of a different rate, is a task that's frequently done by many Maxx owners. While the stock springs are soft and provide decent performance for general driving, someone racing or jumping will often want to swap the springs for some of a higher spring rate. The bad thing is that the stiffer the spring, the more handling and traction can suffer.

RC Raven comes to the rescue of Maxx owners with their aftermarket springs. They offer two varieties of springs, standard and dual rate. The standard springs are 25% stiffer than the stock Maxx springs. The dual rate springs are slightly stiffer than their standard shocks and, as they are compressed, increase to the point of being 3 times stiffer than the stock Traxxas springs. This provides good handling and weight transfer at slower speeds, while still providing a stiff spring rate for high speeds and jumping. The springs I'm using are the dual-rate springs.

As with most of RC Raven's products you can get these springs in a variety of powder-coated colors. The nice thing about RC Ravens springs, when compared to other springs on the market, is that you can get either type of spring in any of their available colors. Most manufacturers use colors to identify their various spring rates, which makes matching colors difficult for those Maxx owners wanting their trucks to look as well as they perform. That's not the case with RC Raven, as both their standard and dual-rate springs are all offered in the following choices.

  • Black
  • Blue
  • Chrome
  • Green
  • Purple
  • Red
  • Yellow

The RC Raven springs are designed to fit the stock Maxx shocks. They may also fit other shocks as well. For instance I've found that they can be used on the Integy shocks as well. However in those circumstances it will be necessary for you to use to the lower shock retainer from the stock Traxxas shocks.
