Latest Happenings At Misbehavin-RC

Behind The Scenes

There's a lot being going on behind the scenes, both website related and personal matters. I had all intentions of getting this next update ready before now. However due to personal items such as the new baby, Zac's Scout Camp, vacation, and then the sheer number of things I wanted to include in this update it was no easy task to accomplish. So first of all let me introduce the youngest RC nut at our household, Dylan Michael Hege.

Dylan was born on June 26th, and has made the summer a very enjoyable and busy experience for the whole family. Then factor in a week's vacation and two Scout camping trips for Zac. One of those camping trips even lasted a week by itself! Sure my wife was out on maternity leave, but there was still plenty to do around the house.

The site itself is still going strong and many hobbyists seem to be finding the information they need, according to the numbers of page requests. I did end up removing the Bravenet hit counter because it recently started having a tendency to slow the site down since it was going offline frequently. Since I don't really rely on that counter, and it was just a novelty, I decided it was just better off being removed entirely. However as always I watch the logs themselves so I can get an accurate portrayal of site usage. The months of June and July provided 40,896 and 38,262 page requests respectively. The requests for July were down a little bit as you can notice, however I feel as if that's due to people being on vacation and enjoying the warm weather.

So rest assured the site is neither sitting idle, nor is it disappearing into the sunset anytime soon. As you'll soon see from reading the rest of this page, quite a bit has been going on in the background.

Latest Updates

Probably the biggest item that's been added this time is the addition of a video section to the site. This has been planned for around 8 months now and has just now seen the light of day. In this section you'll currently find 7 videos that were made from nearly 2.5 hours worth of footage containing our RC trucks in action. I've edited the footage and added some soundtracks, trying to choose songs that matched intensity of the action and abuse. There's just nothing like a little rock mixed with off-road RC trucks!!! I should also mention that I had a great amount of help with these videos, from my wife Mary. With the exception of the Break-in/Hobby Park video, she did all the filming and it was excellent job at that.

As explained on the video page, the videos are in .wmv (Windows Media) format. I chose this format because most people use a Windows based system, and the fact that particular format offers a very great rate of compressibility. Also both the Windows Media player, for the person viewing, and the Media Encoder, for me to encode the movies, is available for free which also helped my decision. I understand that some people may prefer the movies in another format, but I felt this was the best route to take for my purposes. As the video page mentions, if you encounter a difficulty playing the videos, make sure you download the latest version of Microsoft's Media Player.

Videos are great entertainment, and these should prove to be enjoyable. However the core of this site has always been information. So you'll be happy to note that some things never change. Several informative articles have been added this time around as well. The shock articles for the Maxx trucks now have a section on filling and bleeding reservoir shocks. While most shock sets have their own instructions, many people wishing to buy reservoir shocks are confused about the procedure and wish to see what they need to do before they actually purchase them. Others may have lost the instructions that came with their shocks. So I feel this is a very useful update.

Another useful addition is an article that covers CVD's. It walks through a typical installation and also provides information regarding common problems and pitfalls that people encounter. As I always try to do, I offer my take on these situations and some advice on how to help eliminate those problems.

All you nitro guys may want to read through a new article that's been added regarding clutch tuning. It discusses leading and trailing clutch shoes, and trimming the shoes to help the clutch engage at a higher RPM. On the Maxx front there's a new article regarding the modifying the channel access port in the stock receiver box. This makes it easier to change the channel a receiver uses when you use an aftermarket receivers with the stock receiver box.

Other existing articles have been updated with new or even more detailed information. Some of these articles include the Stampede, Rustler and T-Maxx upgrades sections. However other sections have seen more information added as well. So regardless what type of RC truck you own, this round of updates is bound to have something useful in it.

Until next time, keep on bashin'!!!
