Latest Happenings At Misbehavin-RC

Behind The Scenes

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! Well not my birthday, or anyone's else for that matter, but rather the Full Throttle section of the site. It turns a year old today. On this day last year, I ditched the quickly written e-mail update notifications for something a little more organized. I think this format has worked out very well, and if you spend a little time browsing through the previous updates you'll see that this site has come a long way and grown substantially within that period of time. Here's hoping that we look back this time next year, and are able to say the same thing.

It's been big news for a couple of weeks now, but in case you haven't heard Traxxas is introducing a new truck. It's a four-wheel drive truck but that's about all it shares with their flagship, the T-Maxx. It's packed with tons of revolutionary new features, which is where the name for it is derived from. The "Revo" will out in June of 2004, and just as you might have guessed I'll have information up on it as soon as I can get my hands on one.

Several weeks ago I was contacted by Jim Campbell of Tekin Electronics...yep, you heard me correctly Tekin Electronics. Anyone who has been around electric RC's for a few years has surely heard of these guys. They were very big a few years back, and their products, especially their ESC's, provided a lot of bang for the buck. Well if you haven't heard, they're back and ready to pick up where they left off.

If you'll remember, right before their site shut down about two years ago, I placed copies of all the manuals I could find on my site. I knew how popular Tekin products were, and knew that before long many owners would be looking for copies of these manuals.

Jim Campbell reached my via e-mail, and mentioned that they were in the process of getting everything up and running once more. He asked me if it was fine for him to place a link on their site, which was just going live, to my section on Tekin electronics. This way their customers who had previous Tekin products could easily find their manuals, while they were gearing production back up. I certainly gave him permission, as I was ecstatic that they were preparing to enter the RC market once again. So to all you Tekin loyalists, enjoy yourselves as Tekin will be reintroducing some of their best original products, and releasing some new ones. For Tekin fans, 2004 is going to be a year to remember!!!

Regarding Recent Internet Viruses

Recently the MyDoom virus starting affecting e-mail accounts and servers across the globe. Before MyDoom was released many other viruses preceded it as well. In recent months it has become more common for a virus to forge it's point of origin, making it seem as if it came from somewhere it did not.

I've recently received several e-mails regarding this, with the sender thinking the virus-borne e-mail came from one of my accounts. However I can assure you, that is not the case. This site, and all e-mail accounts I use, sit behind a firewall. All e-mail, and general traffic, entering and exiting that point is checked and logged before it continues to it's destination. This is the case whether the traffic is from me, or to me.

What is happening is that someone, who is infected with a virus, happens to have a one of my e-mail addresses stored in their address book. When the virus is active on their machine it randomly flips through their address book and uses an e-mail address it finds in the "Reply" and/or "From" fields. Then it chooses another e-mail address at random to be the "To" address. When this happens, it appears as if the e-mail comes from somewhere it really did not.

There are several steps you should take to protect yourself from being infected with a virus. First, never open any e-mail unless you know the sender. Secondly subject lines with poor grammar or incorrect spelling should be suspected as possibly being a virus. In addition to this, make sure you are running a virus scanner on your PC, and make sure the virus definitions are current. Virus definitions change several times a week, sometimes even on a daily basis. If you only update your definitions once a month, once a year, or never, you are no better off than someone who has no virus protection at all.

For more information regarding virus scanners and utilities check out common anti-virus vendors such as Panda Software and Symantec.

Latest Updates

We have several updates this time around. To start off with, two new reviews have been added, both of which are from Fullforce RC. The Fullforce RC Threaded Inserts are intended to provide a solution for stripped thread holes in the Maxx transmission case. The Fullforce RC Dual Rate springs provide a variation of spring pressure depending upon how far compressed the spring is. This gives you two distinct spring rates. Both of these product reviews can be further explored in the review section of the site.

Moving on to new tech articles, you'll see there are several new additions and revisions here as well. I've added a section on how to customize the shock mounts for the Maxx trucks. It's always been a little time-consuming to get to the inner shocks on the Maxx. However this article explains how to eliminate that problem, and makes shock maintenance and spring changing a breeze.

Looking for a comprehensive screw list for your Electric Rustler or Stampede??? You'll now find one in the Pit Lane section of the site. The list should make it much easier to obtain a collection of replacement screws, so you'll always have plenty on hand. There's also a link to a Hexcrew conversion kit, should you decide to go all-out and dump those pesky Phillips head screws for good. Stay tuned regarding the Hexcrews conversion kit. In the next update, I'll have a full review of a T-Maxx Hexhead conversion kit.

Other items include a revision to the metal gear servo section. I've added some more information regarding the screw that secures the servo saver to the servo output shaft. I've also added another metal gear servo to the list as well. The newly released JR Z560M is very worthy of consideration, when making the switch from a plastic geared servo to one with more durable aluminum gears.

I've also added the Hexcrews conversion kit to the screw list sections for the T-Maxx and the E-Maxx, and will have a full review of the kit in the next update. The RPM Maxx suspension arms section has been added to the E-Maxx section. It should have been there before, but due to an oversight on my part it had been overlooked. The Radio/Receiver section has been updated with two new radios that have just been announced. The Airtronics MX-3S and Hitec SRX are synthesized radios that will give the JR XS3 some great competition. The last revision is that I've added the Dynamite Micro to my list of failsafes.

I mentioned earlier that the next update will contain a review of the Hexcrews Hexhead Conversion Kit. In addition to that, I'll also be posting a review of the Hudy 9 piece Basic Tool Set as well. Hudy has an excellent reputation throughout the industry for providing quality tools, and I've been very impressed during my time with them so far. Stay tuned for a complete review of them.

With all of that being said, I'm through with this issue of Full Throttle. The weather's nice and perfect here, so it's time to get outside and stir up some dust. See you guys in the next update!!!

Until next time, keep on bashin'!!!
