Latest Happenings At Misbehavin-RC

Behind The Scenes

It's been exactly a month since the last update and it's amazing how things have changed. Last month I was digging out from 16 inches of snow, and today the weather is perfect with temperatures around the low 70's. Early spring and mid-to-late fall are two of the best times of the year. The weather is mild, and you can easily spend all day running your RC trucks without danger of frostbite or heat strokes!!!

I had a pleasant surprise early this week when my copy of RC Driver arrived in my mailbox. My T-Maxx has been featured in the Reader's Rides section for their May issue. The picture that was used may be familiar to anyone who has visited the wallpaper section of the site, but the fact that it actually made it in RC Driver is a pretty incredible feeling. Here's the article (click on it for a larger view):

Speaking of "Reader's Rides", I've decided to add a section just like that for this site. I actually had made the decision before my truck ended up in RC Driver, as I thought it would be nice for everyone to share some information about their rides with everyone else. I've already got a few trucks up in the section with several more to come once the owners get some pictures taken. I'm hoping that section of the site will grow over time and become a great place to spend some time.

I've also still got some more plans in the works, but I'm still keeping tight lipped about things for the moment. If all goes well, I should have some details in the next update.

Regarding Recent Internet Viruses

Recently the MyDoom virus starting affecting e-mail accounts and servers across the globe. Before MyDoom was released many other viruses preceded it as well. In recent months it has become more common for a virus to forge it's point of origin, making it seem as if it came from somewhere it did not.

I've recently received several e-mails regarding this, with the sender thinking the virus-borne e-mail came from one of my accounts. However I can assure you, that is not the case. This site, and all e-mail accounts I use, sit behind a firewall. All e-mail, and general traffic, entering and exiting that point is checked and logged before it continues to it's destination. This is the case whether the traffic is from me, or to me.

What is happening is that someone, who is infected with a virus, happens to have a one of my e-mail addresses stored in their address book. When the virus is active on their machine it randomly flips through their address book and uses an e-mail address it finds in the "Reply" and/or "From" fields. Then it chooses another e-mail address at random to be the "To" address. When this happens, it appears as if the e-mail comes from somewhere it really did not.

There are several steps you should take to protect yourself from being infected with a virus. First, never open any e-mail unless you know the sender. Secondly subject lines with poor grammar or incorrect spelling should be suspected as possibly being a virus. In addition to this, make sure you are running a virus scanner on your PC, and make sure the virus definitions are current. Virus definitions change several times a week, sometimes even on a daily basis. If you only update your definitions once a month, once a year, or never, you are no better off than someone who has no virus protection at all.

For more information regarding virus scanners and utilities check out common anti-virus vendors such as Panda Software and Symantec.

Latest Updates

There are several big changes this time around in regards to updates. One is the addition of the Reader's Rides section. As I mentioned earlier, this will hopefully evolve into a gallery where you can look at someone else's RC collection and get some painting or upgrade ideas for your own. Information regarding how to submit your ride to be included in this section can be found in the Reader's Rides section. Make sure you check it out, so you can share your rides with everyone else who reads the site.

Another big addition to the site is my review of the Hitec Aggressor CRX with the Spectra module. The synthesized radio market is growing quickly, and Hitec's entry into this area is a welcome addition. More competition breeds better values and equipment, so it's a win-win situation. If you're in the market for a new radio, be sure to check this review out.

Due to the large number of people I see who have problems working with the stock Traxxas ball joints, I've added an article showing how to work with them. Granted they can be tough to work with, but hopefully a walkthrough of the procedure will help ease the pain and frustration for those who have experienced it. You'll also find the metal gear servo section has been expanded yet again. This time I've added information regarding mounting insulators and servo plug trimming, which will hopefully make installation a little easier for anyone swapping their servos.

On the nitro-only side of things, I've expanded the article relating to pullstart conversion. I had several e-mails with questions about what was the correct orientation of the one-way bearing. So this information should help anyone wishing to make this swap in the future.

With all of that being said, I'm through with this issue of Full Throttle. The weather's nice and perfect here, so it's time to get outside. Hope you get a chance to do the same. See you guys in the next update!!!

Until next time, keep on bashin'!!!
