Latest Happenings At Misbehavin-RC

Behind The Scenes

Well, after a longer delay than I had originally planned, I'm back with an update. Between the Holidays, the weather, videos, and reviews, it took a little longer than originally anticipated to get the update ready. However, the time has arrived! There's a fairly extensive list of updates this time around, and even more stuff I'm in the middle of working on. So keep watching as things gear back up for 2005.

A new year is cranking up, and hopefully before long the cold weather will be rolling back. I'm looking forward to 2005, in anticipation of some great occasions to get out and run that are lying just ahead.

In case you didn't receive a notice from my "sticker mailing list", the Misbehavin' RC stickers have arrived. Get them while you can, as I have no idea right now whether I'll venture down this path again at a later point in time. For more information regarding the stickers, look here.

Tales of Deceit, Deception, and Dishonesty

I want to venture off course for a few moments and discuss an issue I see creep up fairly often on the Traxxas forums and other places. That is the "dual exhaust" kits I see sold, mainly on eBay. Let me start off by saying, don't waste your money. These systems will cause you more grief and problems than you could possibly imagine.

First of all these "dual exhaust" systems are constructed of copper tubing, the exact same type of tubing you can pick up at Lowe's or Home Depot. While there's nothing wrong with picking up items at those stores, the manufacturers of these exhaust systems evidently don't understand exactly how a nitro's pipe and header play a vital role in help the engine perform correctly.

The short version of the story, is that the exhaust system needs to provide proper backpressure and help to pull fuel through the motor. This is accomplished by several factors, including the shape of the pipe, header length, and internal cones. This article from RC Nitro touches on this subject is much greater detail, and helps to explain this concept much better than I could in a short amount of space.

These copper tubing dual exhaust systems have very few, if any, of the characteristics need for a nitro motor to run properly. So what happens when you use one is that you'll tend to starve the motor for fuel at the upper end of the RPM range. The motor may even seem to perform well, because it's so lean, however as everyone knows, running lean over a period of time will shorten your motor life considerably.

The next thing you may wonder, if you've been considering this purchase, is why do these manufacturers tend to have good feedback on eBay? That's easily answered, as most people will give their feedback before they even noticed the problems. Once you submit your feedback through eBay, you can't change it either. Many times the owner of such a pipe will tend to blame the problem on something else besides the pipe, as they may not notice the motor is running lean until some time has passed. Many newcomers to the hobby can easily fit into this category.

So in short, avoid these types of setups, and only use an exhaust system that provides the proper elements that supply your motor with an ample supply of fuel. I'm sure that if one of these manufacturers sees my comments here, I'll end up receiving a few nasty e-mails. So I'll save you the trouble of hunting through my site for an e-mail address, and provide it for you. However, if you are one of these manufacturers, before you fire off an e-mail to me, consider this proposal. I'll be more than willing to review your product if you'd like to provide one to me for this purpose to try and prove me wrong. Also keep in mind that all mail sent to me regarding this from any manufacturer may end up being displayed on this site as well, as I've received several nasty messages through the Traxxas forums from one manufacturer in particular. Any manufacturer comments can be directed to eric@misbehavin-rc.com.

Latest Updates

To start off with, I'll mention that there are two new videos in the video section. There have also been several reviews added to the site as well. Some of these are vehicle reviews, and some of those vehicles are shown in the new videos.

Some other noteworthy updates include a guest contribution of an O.S. motor swap into a T-Maxx, and some articles for the Revo that cover air filters and exhaust couplers. You'll also note that many of the other sections of the site have been updated as well. Examples include: the Wallpaper section, Parts Dying section, and the ever growing list of metal gear servos.

Be sure to check out the list below as it covers the added site information in more detail.

Until next time, keep on bashin'!!!
